Our first exposure to a multitouch world, Panasonic Innovation Center visit 2005

The release of the iphone has had a greater impact than just the consumer mobile phone market. The first publicly accesssible multitouch device also brings with it an operating system that bases itself on the advantages of multitouch. The next six months will establish multitouch as a viable haptic data experience. The end of 2007 will see Microsoft launch its Surface device and the consumer will learn from the two biggest innovators in the technosphere why single digit inputting will be regarded as the equivalent of drawing in sand with a pointy stick.Experiential designers have been aware of the multitouch opportunities ever since Jeff Han broke through with his approaches to multitouch. With the D5 event showcasing an HP sponsored multitouch wall and Gesturetek promoting its multitouch table a storm is heading our way. A few years ago no one would have believed our thumbs, via the use of SMS, would be vital to communication, now it seems that user experiences will be real handful, and we will all be the better for it.
